Halloween Bits & Pieces

With only a few days left before Halloween, I thought I’d better get busy with some preparations since we’d invited some friends and family over.

This year I decided to make pumpkin latterns and decorations. As we don’t have a big enough garden to grow them ourselves, I went on a pumpkin hunt to find some good ones at the market and put my creativity to work. Initially I wanted two or three to place up the steps leading to our front door and then another two or so on the back porch. After all the searching for the perfect pumpkin, I kind of lost my breath and although the mind was willing, I just couldn’t get my creative senses to kick in.

There were our pumpkins - one of them enormous, sitting on the kitchen table staring back at me, waiting to be turned into the worlds most enchanting Jack-o-lattern ever and me without an idea of how to get started. Thank heaven for the Internet. A quick search brought up some really good ideas. I found this small, but interesting site with all kinds of Halloween bits and pieces. Some really different decorations for indoor and outdoor use, that I hadn’t seen before and of course the usual costumes, hats and all things Halloween.

In particular there was a book that took my eye, which turned out to be just what I needed to get the creative juices flowing and so much more. The book is written by a real-live Mom so she knows a thing or two about making Halloween a fun event for the Kids. There’s tons of fun Halloween Recipes for the Kids, so many ideas for fun games, food, drink - that I haven’t finished reading yet and how to decorate pumpkins in very unusual ways.
The point is - I did make my Jack-o-lattern, simply using the guidelines from this book. One down five to go:) Our enormous five kilogram pumpkin now stands proudly at our front door, warding off any mischievious spirits :) With this weight, if any do come along, we can always throw it at them :) You can find the book here and do enjoy it - it’s lots of fun and really for ordinary folks that’s what Halloween is all about - having fun. We do hope you enjoy your Halloween this year.
