What Is Addiction?
What is an addiction and who gets addicted? An addiction is when someone loses the ability to control something irrespective of the consequences. For example, alcoholic types might vomit and pass out half way through a binge, but the moment they regain consciousness, they pick up exactly where they left off regardless of how they feel. Those with addictive personalities often go through denial about their problems, but when it all gets too bad and they realise they have to quit, they find themselves unable to stop. So an addiction is an unhealthy obsession for more of the same regardless of consequences, but most people do not have addictive personalities, and so never have to fight for sobriety from mind altering substances.
