The Beatles Live On
Back in 1967 when The Beatles released their epoch-making Sgt. Pepper, the very first lines sung were “It was twenty years ago today…”. With Rock’n'Roll arguably less than 10 years old at the time, that seemed a long, long time.
But now, 40 years later, while Rock Music has splintered into a thousand tribes, seemingly dominated by corporate-sponsored malcontents and drips, The Beatles’ albums stand up a brave, sonically experimental and surprisingly mature. Given that none of them (even John Lennon) were intellectual giants and that pop music seems even dumber now than it was then, that’s quite an achievement.
You’re invited to peruse my reasonably detailed look back at their career and the influences that they had on the exciting developments of Rock Music during the 1970s at this link, The Beatles.
