Recording Acoustic Drums Isn’t As Difficult As You Might Think

For most Home Recording Studio enthusiasts, recording drums is the most daunting prospect of all. People imagine that to get a reasonable sound, you need lots of specialist microphones, which means a huge cost, and you need to be able to record at least 8 tracks at the same time, so you need an expensive recording system.

Actually, you can get surprisingly decent results using two microphones recorded on two separate channels. For this technique large diaphragm condenser
microphones would be a suitable choice, placed about four feet from the drum kit, four feet apart, pointing towards the middle of the kit.

If you have a third mic, use it as an overhead in combination with the above approach to give better definition to the cymbals and snare and to give a nice presence to the overall kit.

If you’re adventurous enough to go all the way recording drums, and you have enough mics and input channels, here’s a pretty conventional and successful approach…….go to www.homestudiozone.com to find out more.
