Contemporary Furniture Design
Kursi is a new name in the furniture industry. Based in England in the UK, Kursi introduced its range of contemporary furniture designs in December of 2007. As a design-led business Kursi is passionate about hand-made craftsmanship. The brand employs traditional, time-honoured joinery and upholstery methods to produce modern furniture.
The initial product range consists of: 1) a sofa come daybed, 2) a sideboard (or credenza), 3) an ultra-low coffee table, and 4) a floor-seat.
Kursi’s aesthetic has several influences. One would have to be Mid-Century modern, particularly the work of Paul McCobb. As well as Scandinavian design in general from the 1950s, the likes of Hans Wegner, Eero Saarinen, and Arne Jacobsen are key influences too. Other sources of inspiration include traditional Arabic and Japanese furniture, both of which emphasise low floor living.
