So you need a driving test ASAP? Is there a shortcut? Unfortunately not. There’s no list you can be put on, or a special number for you to call. However there are things you can do to increase your chances.

First of all, speak to your driving instructor to make sure you are ready, and they are available for the times you were looking for. Next, book the earliest test you can, it makes it easier to look for an earlier date.

Bookings can be done online through the DSA website (Online Services), or by phoning the DSA on 0300 2001122 and listen to the recorded message.

Once you’ve got a test booked, the easiest way is to go back to the DSA online services and navigate through to the ‘manage your practical test booking’ then ‘check a test’. You then enter you details and if memory serves, choose ‘look for an earlier date’. When you’ve got the dates and times in front of you, you can refresh the page for up to 30 mins, before you need to start again.

You can also phone up the DSA in the same way you would to book a test to check, but it’s more time consuming, and adds to your phone bill.
