How to choose a Wedding Band

Top 5 Tips For Choosing A Northern Ireland Wedding Band.

Most prospective wedding couples are daunted by the task of choosing the entertainment for their wedding reception. Speaking from personal experience, the choice of great wedding bands in Northern Ireland is huge.

All styles of music are amply catered for by bands with a wide range of expertise and experience. The difficulty, wherever you are, is knowing how to choose the right one!

1. Choose a wedding band your guests will like

The main question is “What exactly will I need?” Right? Wrong!

In actual fact, the main question should be “What will my wedding guests like?”. In my experience, many wedding couples book a band that suits their own taste in music, only to find that, on the day, they are so busy that they don’t get much of a chance to listen or dance to the band. The guests, on the other hand, are stuck right through the reception listening to a band that they probably hate!

2. Choose a band that is versatile and experienced.

You know the saying:”You can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time”. And never was that phrase more true than when referring to the poor old wedding band! Make sure you choose a band that has a varied wedding song list, and who can mix styles and genres of music to ensure that everyone gets a little of what they like at some point in the evening.

Ask the band for references or wedding testimonials and comments from previous clients. If they have a web site, make sure to check out any wedding band testimonials.

3. Discuss your requirements with the band

Take the time to discuss your requirements with the band. Look through their repertoire. If there are songs you’d really like to hear, then ask them. More importantly, if there are songs you’d really rather not hear - make sure you tell them! The last thing you want at your wedding is for the band to strike up and play the song that was once the romantic “our song” of your new husband and his old flame!

4. Make sure you get all the fees agreed.

Most bands will charge a fixed fee depending on the duration of the performance. However, some may charge travel time or waiting time as extra. Make sure you are clear about all of the charges you are likely to incur.

5. Keep in touch with the band.

Many wedding bands are made up of semi-professional musicians. “So what?” you might ask. Why is that relevant? Well, the fact that they play in bands as a side-line means they probably have a day job that holds their attention. OK, it doesn’t happen often, but it can happen that a band could become double booked by accident because of a lack of coordination or communication between its members. Make sure you contact the band a couple of weeks in advance to ensure that they are all set for your big day!

Finally, if you are considering booking a Belfast Wedding Band or Northern Ireland wedding band, you may have noticed that I’d highly recommend The Usual Suspects.
