Acupuncture for Cancer Patients can ease pain

Pain relief is very difficult to provide for the patient with advance stage of cancer but the recent suggestions is that acupuncture may be effective.  For typical advanced cancer patient they are given narcotics to relieve from pain but later this technique was proven ineffective.

A Chinese invention that uses tiny needles that are inserted into various points of the body is called “acupuncture”. This is among the oldest healing practices in the world. This technique is considered an alternative medicine but there are major medical facilities such as Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NY offering it as a form of pain relief for advanced cancer patients. However, acupuncture is not recommended for people with the following conditions: Low white blood cell count–increased risk of infection; Low blood platelets–may lead to excess bleeding and Lymphedema (excess swelling in extremeties)–increased risk of infection
