History of the KCWA

Have you wondered how the KCWA came to be?

Founded in 1985 by communities of Kane County, the KCWA was looking for ways to comply with the new radium in water EPA standards. Of special concern was the issue of Radium 226 and 228 in the deep sandstone aquifer utilized by most of the communities of the KCWA. The KCWA took a leadership role in public education, outreach, and evaluating the technical issues related to the new radium regulation.
