Tips to Calm Parrot Screaming

Birds in general are vocal creatures and when we choose to bring them into our homes it can turn into an ear bleeding scream-fest.

There are two reasons for your parrot’s screaming -

One is the type of parrot.
Some parrots are naturally more vocal than others; cockatoos being one of these birds that are very popular, but very noisy pets. Many people buy a bird because it matches the decor in their living room…don’t do this. More than likely you’re setting yourself up for a future of stress-filled screaming goodness. Conures also fall into this category. These birds are very colorful, cute, silly, and generally under $300. What people don’t realize is these birds have an ear piercing scream that they do frequently and sometimes for up to a minute non-stop.

Reason number two is the owner.
As stated earlier, the vast majority of parrot owners bought their bird because it was “pretty”, failing to do any research on the type of bird. General parrot knowledge only goes so far when it comes to these complex creatures. Parrots when bored will result to screaming, biting, feather plucking and self mutilation to pass the time. The proper bird cage is required for parrots, not all cages are created equal. This cage needs plenty of parrot toys, regularly rotated so they don’t become bored with one toy. A bird stand or parrot play gym needs to be on your list…your bird can then get out of his cage to play and exercise. Most important of all, spend time with your parrot – handle the bird, talk to the bird, let the bird spend time with the family in the living room, take your bird on outings even if it’s for a ride in the car. This will cure almost any screaming parrot.
